Even the dog's not impressed |
Our house is a bit strange - you see it's on a raised platform and the back garden is about 30 feet below the back of the house.
There's a big tree in the back garden which grows all the way up to the house. It's a really big tree - and it sucks up a huge amount of water - nearly all the water from the ground, so there's a bare patch around the base of the tree and nothing is ever going to grow there. The tree also takes most of the light.
I have tried growing:
- Vegetables (Failed)
- A Lawn (Failed)
- Potatoes (Failed)
- Roses (Failed)
- More Vegetables (Failed)
In fact, the only thing I can successfully grow down there is nettles - lots of nettles.
It's not a total loss - some of the roses were kind of growing a bit. We put some kind of leafy thing down there - it grew okay too.
I blame the tree - but if I was honest there is another factor. I'm just too bloody lazy - I'm not trudging up and down there with garden tools, and compost and all the other bits and pieces just to have the whole thing grow wild.
I need a new plan...
